Treaty of Hamburg (1762)
Hamburg, Germany
What happened
Sweden had joined the Seven Years' War hoping to win back lands in Pomerania that it had lost to Prussia. When Russia made peace and then an alliance with Prussia, Sweden could no longer carry on. The treaty put everything back the way it was before the war.
Why it matters
It ended the Pomeranian War, Sweden's part in the Seven Years' War. Sweden's hopes of winning back lost territory came to nothing.
What came next
Russia and Prussia were now at peace, and only Austria and Saxony were left fighting Prussia until 1763.
Did you know?
Sweden's queen helped arrange the peace with her own brother, Frederick the Great.
