Treaty of Dresden (1745)
Dresden, Saxony, Germany
What happened
Prussia, Austria and Saxony made the peace. Prussian troops beat the Saxon army at Kesselsdorf and occupied Dresden on 18 December 1745. One week later, on Christmas Day, the three powers made peace in the Saxon capital. Maria Theresa accepted Prussia's control of Silesia and Glatz, and Frederick II recognised Francis I as Holy Roman Emperor.
Why it matters
It ended the Second Silesian War and confirmed Silesia as Prussian. Saxony had to pay Prussia one million rixdollars.
What came next
Prussia agreed to stay neutral for the rest of the War of the Austrian Succession.
Did you know?
It reaffirmed the earlier Treaties of Breslau and Berlin, which had ended the First Silesian War.
