Siege of Miki
Miki Castle, Harima Province (Hyōgo), Japan
What happened
Bessho Nagaharu rebelled against Nobunaga in Harima Province. In 1578 Hideyoshi's forces took the Bessho's outer castles and surrounded Miki Castle. The defenders held out for a long time, first on stored food and then on secret supplies brought by the Mōri navy, until food ran out in 1580.
Why it matters
Why it matters: Hideyoshi was caught between the strong Mōri clan ahead and rebels behind him. Taking Miki removed the centre of the rebellion.
