Battle of Pesaro

Pesaro, Marche, Italy

What happened

About 400 Austrian hussars and jägers under General Geppert raided a Neapolitan garrison of about 3,000 under Michele Carrascosa. At night the small Austrian force attacked the Neapolitan troops holding Pesaro. They took 250 prisoners, and the garrison fled in the dark.

Why it matters

It was a minor fight in the Neapolitan War, much like the night raid on Cesenatico a few days earlier.

What came next

The Austrians kept pursuing Murat's army. The next clash was at Scapezzano on 1 May.

Did you know?

A raiding party outnumbered more than seven to one forced the garrison to flee.
