Battle of Meung-sur-Loire

Meung-sur-Loire, Loiret, France

What happened

The French bypassed the walled town and castle and attacked the bridge defences head-on. They captured the bridge in one day and left a garrison there.

Why it matters

Taking the bridge made it harder for the English to move south of the Loire. It was the third of five French actions in the Loire Campaign.

What came next

The French took Beaugency days later and won at Patay on 18 June.

Did you know?

Joan of Arc visited Meung-sur-Loire in 1429.
