Battle of Măcin
Măcin, Romania
What happened
A Russian army under Nicholas Repnin, with Mikhail Kutuzov, attacked an Ottoman army under Grand Vizier Koca Yusuf Pasha. Repnin attacked before all of the Grand Vizier's troops had gathered. Russian columns took the Ottoman trenches and central camp, Kutuzov's charge broke the Ottoman right, and Russian guns turned back an Ottoman landing from the river.
Why it matters
Together with Russian wins at Izmail and Cape Kaliakra, it hurried the Ottomans toward peace.
What came next
The Treaty of Jassy ended the war in January 1792.
