Battle of Luckau

Luckau, Brandenburg, Germany

What happened

Napoleon sent Oudinot north toward Berlin. His vanguard attacked Luckau and pushed the allies into the walled old town, but could not break through the walls. Bülow's cavalry struck the French flanks, and Oudinot withdrew south.

Why it matters

The French push toward Berlin was blunted. It was fought on the same day that a truce was agreed.

What came next

The seven-week Truce of Pläswitz followed. In August, Napoleon ordered another attack on Berlin, which ended at Großbeeren.

Did you know?

The battle happened on the very day the Truce of Pläswitz was agreed.
