Battle of Linz-Urfahr
Urfahr, Linz, Upper Austria, Austria
What happened
Napoleon's long supply line ran along the Danube. Kollowrat's Austrians attacked the Württemberg troops guarding a bridgehead opposite Linz. Saxon troops arrived to help, and Bernadotte then drove back both Austrian columns.
Why it matters
The defence at Linz blocked the Austrian plan to cut Napoleon's supply line along the Danube.
What came next
Kollowrat's corps was later called back, but too late for the Battle of Aspern-Essling.
Did you know?
Württemberg and Saxon horsemen captured an Austrian battery on the Pfennigberg hill and kept the guns as prizes.
