Battle of Haynau
Haynau (Chojnów), Lower Silesia, Poland
What happened
After the Battle of Bautzen, the Prussian and Russian armies fell back in good order. The French chased them carelessly. Blücher hid about twenty squadrons of militia cavalry and surprised Maison's division, overrunning much of it.
Why it matters
It greatly boosted the spirits of the new Prussian cavalry and their trust in Blücher. The material loss to France was not large.
What came next
A few days later both sides agreed to the Armistice of Pläswitz, which lasted through the summer.
Did you know?
A small monument to the victory was destroyed in 1945.
