Battle of Gerberoy
Gerberoy, Oise, France
What happened
Arundel marched toward Gerberoy, thinking it was weakly defended. La Hire's cavalry struck the main English column on the road to Gournay, and fighting spread into the streets. When French reinforcements arrived, the English retreated.
Why it matters
Gerberoy was a useful outpost for threatening English-held Normandy and protecting Beauvais. It showed the French could still win after Joan of Arc's death.
What came next
The English took Gerberoy in 1437, and the French retook it in 1449.
Did you know?
Gerberoy had seen an earlier siege in 1078–79, between William the Conqueror and his son Robert.
