Battle of Biberach (1800)

Biberach an der Riss, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

What happened

Saint-Cyr's corps caught up with part of Kray's retreating army near Biberach. In the fighting, the Austrians lost about twice as many men as the French. Kray then withdrew further east.

Why it matters

Why it matters: It was a French victory in Moreau's 1800 campaign. Earlier, Austria's loss of its main supply base at Stockach had cut off Kray's routes through Switzerland.

What came next

Kray was pushed back to Ulm, and the French crossed the Danube at Höchstädt in June.

Did you know?

Kray had placed his main supply store at Stockach, only a day's march from French-held Switzerland, which the page calls unwise.
